The First Time l Met My Golden Friend, Anne McLuskie

Created by Cathy 3 years ago

it was October 1970 and I arrived at Evode Limited, Stafford, for my interview for a secretarial post in the Typing Pool at Evode. After waiting in the Personel Office for a period long enough for me to inadvertently knock a plant pot off the windowsill, l was ushered to the Typing Pool Office where a very pretty, pleasant young woman named Mrs McLuskie was to test my typing abilities. I have remembered to this day, fifty years later, that the script she chose for the typing test was all about Edinburgh. I passed,  she arranged for my hiring and that was the beginning of a golden fiendship that would stretch over many decades.

Over the next few years, l was amazed at her energy, she juggled looking after her four growing children with a full time job as Office Manager, and a host of hobbies ranging from sewing, yoga, swimming to ballroom dancing. In those days she drove a huge, l think American, car, got up at 6.00am every day to do the family clothes wash, ushered the children to school before clocking in at the office.

And that was the beginning of the McLuskie dynasty, the family now has countless members, Anne's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly.

I have been privileged to have counted Anne as my, so very much admired, friend and will forever hold her in my heart.
